Black History Month: Brécha Byrd Celebrates Black History Forever

Momentum Worldwide is proud to celebrate Black History Month this February, continuing to honor Black heritage and the richness, intersectionality, and nuances of Black identity in the US.
In this blog feature, Brécha Byrd, Associate Business Leadership, New York, shares an empowering personal insight into her experience as a Black Woman.

“I am Brécha Byrd, an Associate in Business Leadership at Momentum Worldwide from Surry County, VA. I attended a Historically Black College/University during my collegiate years. At Saint Augustine’s University, I proudly embodied my Black History through my academic achievements as Co-Salutatorian of the School of Business, on the basketball court as a Captain, and serving as The 72nd Miss Saint Augustine’s University. From culture to community, and creativity – Black History is celebrated and there’s no denying it. I am thankful to every ancestor who advocated and sacrificed for me. I am honoring their legacy by living a purposeful life. Transparently speaking, where I am now was not always reality.

I have so many Black women and men in my life who have inspired me to be fearless, understanding the only limitations that exist are the ones you place on yourself. I am so thankful for my family and mentors who have helped pave the way for people who look like me. Recently, my family and I went viral on TikTok by simply dancing and being ourselves – that’s the beauty of the Black community. I enjoy being in spaces where I am not judged by the enunciation of my name, where I can wear my afro freely, where I can show up as Brécha and be more than enough. I am grateful that Momentum Worldwide has a welcoming environment, where I feel that I can be authentically me and use my voice for something greater. I am Black History and encourage us all to celebrate and be informed beyond February.”
